Don’t get too jealous, but yesterday I was in the same room as/became best friends with Duff, Mary Alice, and Geoff of the Food Network’s Ace of Cakes. First thought: THIS IS AWESOME I AM IN HEAVEN. Second thought: Wow, they’re tiny. Third thought: Okay, where’s the cake.

Where’s the cake, you ask? Oh, here it is:

The event was a NYPL-hosted book launch party for the young adult novel ghostgirl with author Tonya Hurley reading to music by Vince Clarke.

Yeah, that’s right. Mother-effin’ Depeche Mode/Erasure/Yaz VINCE CLARKE.

But sadly, I missed the reading. I did see the Q&A, though. Here’s a pic:

(Contrary to what is pictured there were actual kids at the event and they all seemed really psyched about the book. Incredible cake, Brit electro-pop star or no, that’s the only recommendation that counts in these cases.)

Here’s the Ace of Cakes crew with Tonya:

And here is a partial pic of Jen being fascinated by the many things you can do with fondant. The cake, btw, was delicious.

This little piggy cried wee wee wee all the way home.

Janeane Garofolo and Paul F. Tompkins

at the 92YTribeca. Thursday, June 18th.

janeane1

janeane2

Some things I know about Janeane Garofolo:

1) You need to call a bitch if you wanna get a hold of her.  She doesn’t have an email account.
2) She doesn’t drink alcohol, but swears by the white hot chocolate at MarieBelle (which, if you look at the website, doesn’t seem to exist, but I’ll take her word for it.)

Janeane:
“You have to go. You have to go, where are you right now? Will you promise me at some point you’ll go to MarieBelle?”
Me:
“Okay, I will.”
Janeane: “It’s so precious it’s worth it’s weight in gold.
Promise me at some point you will find yourself over at MarieBelle’s.”
Me: “Okay, fine, I’ll go right now… Oh, I just dropped the phone.” (This actually happened.)

3) She loves Indian Row (6th St.). Also, Italian food. And,
4) She is awesome.

So like, yeah, she and I are pretty much best friends. For more with Ms. Garofolo, check out her 21 Questions.

Also, R.I.P Best Week Ever with Paul F. Tompkins.

So, I have a birthday coming up…

I had a My Little Pony once that danced like a maniac when you wound up its tail. Really, the “dancing” was just the pony violently vibrating ’cause its legs didn’t bend, but it was still awesome, and I kinda wish I still had it.

These sculptures by Finnish art student Mari Kasurinen might do the trick, though:

Princess Leia is just horsin’ around.

He-Man ain’t foal-ing. He’s The Most Powerful Pony in the Universe!

Edward Scissorhoofs (Thanks Oriana!). Won’t you be his neigh-bor?

There’s nothing wrong with Cry Baby’s voice, he’s just a little horse.

The Joker. A little scary, but you whinny some, you lose some. (Ouch, even I felt that one.)

These guys are for sale for £330. I don’t know how much that translates to… like a million bucks? Anyway, somebody should buy one for me.

P.S. Did you guys know My Little Pony turned 25 last year?

Pearl Jam’s “Ten” is being reissued next Tuesday, the first of a series of reissues marking the 20th anniversary of the band’s formation. But if you want to see the true reaches of the band, check out this vid of Minneapolis artist P.O.S. covering “Why Go”:

Happy Weekend, y’all.

don’t tell me you didn’t see this coming

Hey kids, guess what day it is!

Is it Friday?

Well, yes…

Is it Justine’s birthday?

Well, yes, that too (Happy Birthday Justine!), but think specifically about the date.

Uhhhh…

Alright, alright, I’ll tell you. For the second month in a row, it’s Friday the 13th! And what better to celebrate with than the epic and often imitated video for Thriller, brought to you by the gloved one himself. Remember the good times, folks:

Vodpod videos no longer available.

In related news, someone please take me to see MJ’s “This Is It” tour in London. We now have 50 chances. But if that’s too much trouble, you can always buy me this from his upcoming estate auction. Or better yet, this. I’ve been looking for something to hang over my bed:

mj

From the Collection of Michael Jackson.

In awesomeness news, looks like the movie Heathers is being developed into a musical for the stage. Can we start a campaign for Christian Slater to reprise his role? Seriously, that guy never seems to age.

Please to enjoy the movie trailer:

First American Psycho, and now this. Bloody Broadway!

Dude-atude

Hey Lonely Island boys, congrats on the new album and being best friends with T-Pain on a boat and all, but there’ll always be a special place in my heart for this:

You’ve done due justice to arguably (and I WILL argue it) the best part from the best movie ever*. If you don’t believe me, you can just ask Kenneth.

*Okay, one of the best movies ever. Gotta leave room for Real Genius.
