B-Boy Limping

Last night I went to a listening party for Janelle Monáe…

…and these guys showed up:

He has a mirror for a face.

They were with Monáe and all but [hilariously] they made me really uneasy. It was probably residual fear from Scream. Or maybe because we were in the Rubin Museum and museums make everything creepier. I dunno. But whatever the reason they were quite pleasant… I think. They didn’t really talk or do much of anything except stand there and look terrifying.

We got there late but managed to catch half of Monáe’s frenetic upcoming album The ArchAndroid with guest appearances by Saul Williams, Big Boi (who also co-produced), Of Montreal, Deep Cotton, and Monáe’s cyborg alter-ego, Cindi Mayweather. It’s out May 18 but you can stream two tracks on her site: “Cold War,” and “Tightrope,” featuring Big Boi.  Both are jams.

Highly recommended.

P.S. Dudes with mirrored faces REFLECT YOU BACK TO YOURSELF. On second thought I don’t think I’m being unreasonable here.

P.P.S. Apparently we missed Diddy via webcam, and Keenan Thompson with sunglasses on. .
